Every Word of God is Pure

“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” – Proverbs 30:5-6

God’s Word is wonderful in many ways. Here in Proverbs 30:5, we encounter it’s purity. The Bible is infallible and inerrant. It can never be wrong. It never fails. It is without mistake or error. Further, in regards to its purity, note what Agur says. Every word is pure. it is completely true. There is no aspect of it that has a mixture of falsehood or corruption. God’s Word is and must be our rule for faith and life, for every part of it is holy. Every part of it is good and free of folly! (Matthew 4:4, Matthew 5:18)

In verse 5, we also encounter the reality that God is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. This supposes our knowledge of God by His Word. God in His Word and promises, is a sure protection to all who put their trust in Him. David declared a similar truth in Psalm 9:10, “And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.” Think about this truth more today- those who know God, put their trust in Him. He hasn’t and won’t forsake those who seek Him. Seek the Lord, rely on His promises, and obey His commands!

As the Word of God is pure, it must not be corrupted or abused by men trying to add to it, or remove things from it. God forbids both! Don’t add to it, don’t diminish from it. Consider Deuteronomy 4:2, “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” We see the attempts of many over the centuries to do so. Yet God has providentially preserved His Word- every jot and tittle (the smallest marks in the Hebrew language). We must not add to His words or take away from them. For those who do so will be rebuked and found to be liars!

Stand firm on the pure Word of God, as it has been given to us. Be thankful for its purity and truth. Trust the Lord with all your heart. He will protect you and never forsake you!
