“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” Psalm 90:2
I love looking at landscape paintings and pictures. I likewise really enjoy those of mountains. Looking at mountains, especially up close in person, reminds you of their massive stature. That stature is magnified as you hike or climb them- so incredible, so beautiful. They are solid, strong, immovable by human hands. One might call them regal and majestic. Where they are found, they paint the skyline and have done so as landmarks for generations upon generations. It’s hard for some to consider that there could be a time when they weren’t there. However, there was a time when they were not. As Moses prayed in Psalm 90, the mountains were brought forth by God. He created, He formed the earth and the world.
Yet, what is true of God? He is infinite in respect to both time and space. God is eternal. There has never been a time when God was not. There will never be a time when He will cease to exist. God has always existed and always will. “From everlasting to everlasting”, He is God. This should fill our hearts with wonder and praise! Christ is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (Revelation 22:13).
Consider also these passages of Scripture. Pray that the Holy Spirit would deepen your adoration of the marvelous triune God:
- Isaiah 40:28- “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”
- John 8:58- “Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
- Deuteronomy 33:27a- “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms;”
Praise, O praise the eternal God, you His saints! To God be the glory. May you know His grace and blessings this week.
