“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
Our days and weeks are often busy, sometimes even rough and tough. There are many things that weigh down on us. Many of us carry heavy loads and few people know the extent of it. A great blessing that Christ gives His people is being members of His body- the church. We’re not alone. We don’t have to bear our load alone.
One way we love and serve each other in the church is to bear each other’s burdens. That is, we walk together through the ups and downs of the Christian life. The image Paul uses is that of coming alongside another to help shoulder a heavy load. There us much in life that we try to shoulder ourselves; but the call of the Bible is to shoulder such loads together as the church. Indeed, we are many members, yet one body. When one weeps, we all weep; when one rejoices, we all rejoice.
As Christians, we are united by the same Spirit and in union with the same Savior. Satan loves to destroy the church – and one of his chief weapons is the weapon of division. Bearing one another’s burdens is but one way we do battle against the wiles of the evil one. May we consider and pray as to how we can bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.
